There are also endless opportunities (both during the semester and summer), especially if you want to get involved with research as an undergraduate. The people here are mainly what makes it worth it-I've made friends that I know will last a lifetime. Junior: Even though the past year has been tough because of COVID restrictions, I have had overall a pretty good time at West Point. It didn't hurt that the school is in Manhattan, and in my favorite part! Also, the research materials were endless.
They were all working and teaching, so it was the best of both worlds. Even though it was only an elective class, I found it fascinating and the professor, who was visiting from England, was very engaging and enjoyed his work. We saw rings of Saturn, Jupiters moons, storms on Jupiter, star clusters, and more. There's a telescope on campus and I'll never forget our class meeting at 9pm one night to view the planets and see what astronomers actually did. The work load was definitely heavy, but I learned more there than anywhere else I have been since then. They always challenged me to be open to possibilities and to figure things out from all angles. I'm happy to be an Owl!Īlum: Attending Columbia University was a fantastic experience for me. This means that dorms are also massive, and the living conditions are sensational. Rice also has an enormous campus that rivals the Ivies while only having a total enrollment of under 7000 students. Of course, I couldn't mention Rice without mentioning how good their academics are, and as a STEM student the classes are fast-paced yet easy to understand. Everyone in the student body is willing to get to know you and, as an introvert, I feel myself becoming more and more relaxed when hanging out and talking to other people. Rice is a super inclusive university, with only the best of the best as professors, and the people here are nicer than any other people I've ever met. However, even though I've only been here for a few weeks, I couldn't be happier. I was aiming for the Ivy Leagues and ended up at a college that I hadn't even heard of before the university application process. Duke grads have numerous post-grad opportunities, and I was able to get a great job.įreshman: At first, I was a bit disappointed that I ended up at Rice University. The food and campus living environment are both superb, and the city of Durham is nearby and nice as well. There are hundreds of student groups to join, and most have strong social components too. Duke has a diverse social scene, so there really is a place for everyone, but it can be challenging to navigate the selective organizations. It's easy to get involved with research, study abroad, or engage in other opportunities that interest you. The strong level of professor engagement also sets Duke apart I became close with many of my professors who served as mentors, advisors, and friends throughout college and even now after graduation. Many of Duke's majors/minors are flexible and easy to combine, so I was able to study what truly interested me while still getting a well-rounded education. In cases where two or more schools received the same number of points, we awarded the more affordable program the higher ranking.Alum: Duke is a great school with tons of academic, extracurricular, and social opportunities for its students.
